Course details carry over from year to year but not quarter to quarter. That means a course set up for Summer has no impact on Winter, Spring, or Autumn. It can impact future Summers, but the system doesn't use the final version of the course as it happened but instead a saved version of the data from earlier in the process - specifically, the version of the course as it was in Time Schedule Construction when TS Construction closes for the quarter.

Typically our office is asked to add or change courses after TS Construction closes, so almost none of the changes our office makes stick from year to year. If a coordinator needs a change to continue forward, we recommend they inform our office of the immediate changes and then make the same updates themselves in Time Schedule Construction for future quarters.

An example from Spring 2021:

Q: "Why wasn't my Summer 2021 class scheduled? I added it through your office in Spring 2020."
A: "The courses for Summer 2021 were based on the Summer 2020 courses as of November 2019 when Time Schedule Construction closed. Changes made to Summer 2020 after that date would not carry forward into Summer 2021. Likewise, Time Schedule Construction for Summer Quarter 2021 closed back in November 2020, so while we can do an add for the Summer 2021 course now, it still won't show up again next summer unless it is also added to Summer 2022 in Time Schedule Construction. Summer 2022 is already live in Time Schedule construction, so we recommend doing that now.

To put it another way, despite Summer 2021 instruction having not started, the data for Summer 2022 is already loaded into TS Construction. It's therefore too late for changes made to Summer 2021 to impact Summer 2022, but a perfect time for changes made to Summer 2022 to impact Summer 2023 (if added through Time Schedule Construction)."

Note that because of the timeline of course construction there can be a gap in time, sometimes months long, where it's too late to "permanently" update a course in Time Schedule Construction, but the next year's version of that quarter isn't yet available either. In these cases we recommend that coordinators record the changes they need and set a reminder for when the quarter becomes available.
